I know Cherelle mentioned her already but this woman deserves a lot more recognition – my all time favorite, legendary fashion designer – Coco Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971). According to Wikipedia, “She was a pioneering French fashion designer whose modernist philosophy, menswear-inspired fashions, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important figure in 20th-century fashion.” Menswear inspired!! Dude, if she was still alive today, I would definitely invite her to be our guest Closet Raider on here.

I’m glad Cherelle brought her up because Coco Before Chanel is coming out in October 9th in the CINEARTS AT SANTANA ROW, SAN JOSE. Oh the anticipation, I can’t wait! See other release dates!

Here’s a the trailer:

Here’s the movie poster of the leading lady, Audrey Tautou as Coco Chanel. Look at what she is wearing – can you say boyfriend’s closet inspired. Oh yea.

cocochanel001

Author Wendy Ide states in her review for Coco Before Chanel on Times Online , ” the film focuses on Chanel’s early years as a young, poor but furiously stylish waif and on how the men in her life shaped her aesthetic.” Yea, yea, I know us women don’t give a lot of credit to men in general, but honestly you guys have contributed a lot to creating our timeless fashion. Ties, dress pants, dress shirts and suits – they will never get old. So, thank you very much boys.

And from watching Tautou’s interview, she states Coco Chanel broke down the barrier of how a woman should be. “She introduce the idea that a woman should not have to be an element of decoration.” And yes, her style is still fashionable, modern and respected til this very day because of that. She took out the unnecessary elements of decorations – modeled her fashion as how an independent, strong woman should be. Though it may be questionable during her time – it’s now a classic.

So yea, I was inspired by that movie poster up top…and uh, I played a little with my mens inspired business attire; I guess I have to thank Coco for that.

Men’s clothes = classic. You guys take away all the unnecessary junk, jewels, sequences, embellishments and other hot mess – leaving behind simplicity. And simplicity is absolutely beautiful and immortal. There’s a bit of humbleness and boldness to boy clothes (aside from those tacky $300 jeans). Oh yea, and I love how it represents that miss independent. And that’s why I love them and find them definitely attractive.

You can look extravagant and eccentric in simpler clothing. And if you’re having trouble finding some, it’s located in your boyfriend’s closet.
