Janelle Monae: Awesome sound, CRAZY style!!!

I remember only slightly glancing at her awhile ago as I was watching television. My immediate thought was, “This girl is straight up wearing a tux and she is crazy on stage.” I never really listened to her music until recently and I’m glad I did because her voice is amazing!!! It’s jazzy, yet it’s nothing like I’ve heard before, and if you pay really close attention to her lyrics, they’re probably more meaningful than the average songs you hear on the radio. Also, unlike most of the female recording artists we’re listening to today, she keeps all of her clothes on and it’s boy clothes that she’s wearing (with a feminine touch of course)!

I know I’ve seen many female recording artists try and pull off some kind of outfit coming from androgynous influences, but she can consistently pull it off every time. I chose two different pictures of her because they featured articles of clothing that we mention in various entries (the suspenders, the button up shirt, oxfords, etc). My favorite picture of her is the one on the right. I love her outfit and I would love to see a girl pull something like that off on the street. Who knows, perhaps if you keep reading, a tuxedo project may come up in the future .
