If you watched Ugly Betty’s Season 4 : Ep. 9 Be-Shure, you’ll know where I am heading with this entry. And if you haven’t, watch this clip:

“Fashion icon Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) gets caught in her boyfriend’s prison jumpsuit and turns a fashion faux pas into a full-blown trend.”

After watching this episode, I was like “yea…jumpsuits. It was totally a guy’s thing.” So I did a little researching…

My folks over at Wiki listed the types of manly occupation that would wear a jumpsuits: pilots, drivers, sportsmen, auto-mechanic, plumbers, institutional uniform… Women back in the days were too well behaved to take on these  jobs – so it was such a guy’s wear.

I’m going to give you an educated guess that Harriet Quimby was the first woman to wear a jumpsuit as she was the first licensed woman pilot in the United States.

And next in line is probably the famous tomboy Amelia Earhart.

Though jumpsuits are “generally regarded as a garment of convenience,” in 1960′s it started appearing in common & high fashion. It became more popular in the 1980s when different adaptation of the jumpsuit came out and became things like rompers, onesies and overalls.

And, (I’m going to guess) it got popular because of Elvis’ tackily embellished white things:

Yea…jumpsuits maybe a guy’s thing, but it sure looks better on us ladies.. Don’t ‘cha think?

So if you want a jumpsuit, you can steal & revamp one from your bf closet if he has one. Or find some for a great price. Here’s 2 that I found under $25:

I tried one on once, i liked it! But Im not daring enough to wear it. But its a nice article of clothing that makes your legs appear longer & you taller!

Please do a DIY on slashed, frayed t-shirts like the one from your Halloween blog, a DIY on long sleeve dress, and a DIY on making something from an oversize men’s shirt. Thanks!
