Home, sweet home my dearest I <3 Your Style: How to Define & Refine Your Personal Style. I know I’m skipping ahead in the book, but there is one chapter that caught my eyes and I just have to share it with you. Amanda Brooks stated everything I couldn’t express in many of my boyfriend fashion entries on style simplicity and such in her chapter, “Minimal” (pg. 110). And so, here I go quoting:
“Minimalism is an entire life philosophy. The more you read about it, the more the whole concept starts to sound pretty spiritual. It’s about having less and enjoying the things you have more – it’s about cutting through the excess to discover what is essential. Minimalist style requires discipline, consistency, and attention to quality. Most minimalist-Sofia Coppola is my favorite example-are methodical about getting dressed and have a heightened sense of self-awareness. They are often devoted to certain brands for their guaranteed of good cut, fabric quality, and reliability in design. Because there isn’t much to distract the eye, everything they wear must be of great quality; it must fit perfectly; the color and shape must flatter”
Brooks placed many examples of minimalist and boyfriend fashion in the chapter and throughout the book, so if and when you get the chance, pick this read up. Here’s an example that I found online to parallel with the book on page 126.
“A Minimal Tuxedo is one of my all-time favorite evening looks for a woman. Style it right, and it will love minimal rather than classic: strict hair, black eye makeup, nude lips, and a tailored suit with very simple lines. Sofia Coppola (2004).”
And guess who else is a minimalist – besides Audrey Hepburn, Georgia O’Keefe, Angelina Jolie, Jean Harlow & Coco Chanel? Well, go ahead – take a look inside this closet – it’s filled with “quiet plays of color tones and clean strong shapes”. Hello, I’m Jessica and I am a minimalist. That’s right, I’m just attracted to simplicity and purity. Who isn’t? And men’s clothes suit me well in fulfilling my minimalistic standards.
